Insert by Tina & Stuart – Malcesine
As Gwen posted on facebook earlier this week about it being only 2 months until wedding season starts again, it made us realise that it has in fact been 5 months since our wedding and we had still not emailed our thanks to you. Please don’t take our tardiness as any indication at all of our appreciation of you arranging what was, quite frankly, the best day of our lives.
For Stuart and I, our wedding was always going to be abroad but deciding where was always going to be a challenge. We have travelled all over the world and only somewhere truly fabulous would do for us. I (Tina) had Italy in my heart from the start and as we both love the English Lake District so much, the Italian lakes was a natural place to look. I had been doing some research whilst Stuart had been at work one day and, on his return, I said that I had found what looked to be a beautiful place called Malcesine. Jokingly, Stuart said “if we can get married in a castle, we can get married there” and that’s where is all began..
That evening I sent a couple of emails off to wedding planners with tentative enquiries; first thing the following morning Gwen had emailed me back and by the time the other wedding planner emailed me back much later, I had already exchanged several emails with Gwen and LGW had our seal of approval. Within a matter of days, the date was chosen and the wedding was booked.
Getting married somewhere you have never visited and having your big day arranged by people who don’t know you is a massive thing but throughout the whole process we were put at ease by the LGW ladies. No question was ever too silly, even if we’d asked it 10 times already!
The idea of a private facebook groups is such a fabuous idea, it was a godsend, it made me feel so much more relaxed knowing that there were tons of past brides who had also put their trust in LGW and who always had such nice things to say about them, and having questions answered by people who are best placed to answer them, having been through it all themselves.
When we arrived in Malcesine, we were blown away by it’s beauty and knew that we’d chosen the right place to marry. Our welcome meeting with the lovely Annabelle went perfectly smoothly (even though we had slight hangovers from an indulgent day/night before).
The day of the wedding came and we awoke to a huge thunderstorm. I thought I would be bothered by it but I totally wasn’t. The hair and make up ladies did a fabulous job – keeping calm even when the electric cut out briefly due to the storm!
Annabelle was with us throughout the day, as was Gwen doing the photography. All of our guests commented on how lovely they both were – total professionals and excellent at what they do, making us all feel like we were their friends rather than clients.
The day went without a hitch, even the rain during the ceremony didn’t ruin a thing – and in fact our guests commented on how memorable it made it. And as Annabelle said to me “in Italy, a wet bride is a lucky bride” Although admittedly, we were both pleased when the sunshine came back out and allowed us to have our photos and boat ride in the sunshine!
We had the toast in the castle, the food was lovely and the drinks were plentiful. Annabelle recommended a lovely bar next to the lake for drinks before the boat ride – a great recommendation, our own private terrace with beers as large as our heads!
La Voglia was fantastic. Christian did such an amazing job of making the place look exactly as we had hoped, the tables looked beautiful. The food was out of this world. Our guests raved about the pear and cheese ravioli for ages.
The photographs taken by Gwen were fabulous, all 1227 of them!
In summary, we had the best day of our lives and our guests enjoyed every moment.
We have no doubt that we will return to Malcesine again in the future.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us to have our perfect wedding in such a beautiful place..
