Dear all at LGW,
We made it back from our four week honeymoon and have finally got round to making a well deserved thank you to all at LGW.
We always knew we wanted to get married abroad. Andrew really didn’t want a wedding in England and I hate flat packed weddings. By that I mean doing the same that everyone else does. Having the wedding and the reception in a hotel and moving from room to room. Having to then get out so they can set it up for the evening…. It’s not for me. I also hate roast dinners, since most wedding venues in England only serve some sort of variation on the roast dinner I was happy to go aboard. The thought of eating watery gravy and under cooked vegetables on my wedding day did not appeal. I know it’s weird, but I really do hate roast dinners!!
We really wanted to get married in Vegas; not in a tacky little chapel but in one of the hotels (The Venetian actually as it has a beautiful little court yard filled with flowers) and then have a lovely five star wedding breakfast in one of the restaurants.
We did all the research and were very close to booking when my mum threw a hissy fit about her only daughter getting married in Vegas. In her head she had dreamed of a castle and beautiful tables surrounded by all her friends and family in England…. After a few difficult days Andrew and I agreed that for Andrew’s dad and my nan to be able to come to the wedding it would need to be in Europe so it is only a short hall flight. Italy was the obvious choice. We had got engaged in Venice (hence the Venetian) so we both started to come round to the idea. During a random frustrated google search following a long conversation with my mum about how Leeds Castle in Kent, England was not where we wanted to get married Andrew stumbled across Malcesine Castle. It was perfect. Further googling later an email had been sent to LGW and we had loads of info. Less than a week later, it was booked.
The service we received from all the LGW ladies was superb from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble or too stupid a question. In May 2013 we went to Malcesine with my mum and dad to see what it was like and any doubts anyone had (my Mum) were blown away. It was amazing, better than the pictures. Annabel, showed us around everywhere and took us to the castle which definitely confirmed for us that we had made the right decision.
After that, time flew by and before we knew it we were back in the LGW office preparing to get married. Jac was our wedding planner and right from the beginning she made us feel comfortable with everything that was going to happen. She was friendly and professional throughout the whole experience. I think a few of the male guests had a little crush on her too!
Andrew had booked me hair and make-up with Jacki and Tizi as a surprise which was amazing and I’m so happy he did. If anyone is still undecided about this aspect you should book it, it will be worth it. Jacki is an absolutely lovely person and really helped my nerves on the morning of the wedding.
The man who drives the tuc tuc is so lovely and really made mine and my dad’s day – he was great. In fact one of the funny stories from our wedding was my Nan (88) and Andrew’s Dad (78) were picked up in the tuc tuc as well as they are registered disabled and as they were chauffeured throughout the town, it seemed that everyone thought they were getting married so many people wanted to take photos of them and they loved every minute of their time in the tuc tuc as well as the attention just as much as we did.
The lake side toast is perfect and gives your guests a chance to enjoy a lovely view of the lake whilst enjoying prosecco and the perfect mini buffet and Le Pace had everything ready for when we all arrived.
Gwen is a great photographer and did an amazing job with the photos. I wasn’t expecting much from the pictures if I’m honest. A couple of days before the wedding at the Town Hall, we found out that there was a medieval weekend at the castle which would be right in the middle of our wedding. It meant that there were medieval stalls everywhere and loads of people. I knew they would be right where I wanted pictures taken and on the day they were. I didn’t manage to have any group shots where I wanted them, but also they made the whole photo experience a little more stressful. Trying to walk around the castle with the level of noise and people was not what I had imagined. I really could have just exploded but I knew there was no point, there was nothing I could do about it. However when I saw the photos I was really surprised. Gwen had managed to do a great job; she coped with messy medieval people, bands, crazy people with flying batons, falcons, my difficult mother and my awful aunt who would not take her sunglasses off! Thank you Gwen you did a fantastic job in a very difficult situation.
Christian and his team at La Voglia did an amazing job. The food was out of this world and the service was spot on. The restaurant is the perfect setting for a wedding breakfast and reception. We decided to pay for all the drinks at the wedding reception and throughout the evening Christian was keeping Andrew up to date with the bill. We also made an error with a food order for a non red meat eater, but after speaking with Christian he sorted for us straight away and the guest was able to have chicken.
We had an amazing day that we will never forget. Obviously we understand that for Gwen, Annabel and Jac this is their job and they do it every day but what is so great about them and LGW is that we were never made to feel that way and we will always be grateful for the most amazing experience you provided us and our guests. We will be back to say hello and already booked and planned our first anniversary for 2014.
If anyone is in any doubt about you’re wedding day you do not need to worry, LGW tick all the boxes and they will ensure you have a day that you have dreamed about and will never forget.
Thank you again for making our wedding so magical§§
